Here come the trees!
1 April 2024
Despite lots of rainy setbacks the beautiful Tibetan Cherry trees arrived safely from the nursery to their new home in Ebbsfleet Green.
Due to their weight -2.4 tonnes each – they were carefully unloaded using a forklift and manoeuvred into their planting positions.
The root balls have been kept small so they can be dug up and leave the nursery, but now they are in their permanent home the roots should start to spread below ground and take anchor.
They are wrapped in hessian and a net that will disintegrate over time. They sit on a thick layer of rich soil and fertiliser, and then are anchored into position by a guying system to help them stay upright until the roots take. A pipe is wrapped around each ball to bring air and water to the roots before being bedded in with more soil.
The grassed area around the foundations and tree pits was unavoidably damaged during these works, so it’ll be given a lovely new grass carpet in the coming weeks.
Next up….sculptures!
In the meantime, look out for the tree blossom end of April / beginning of May.
