Breaking ground!

1 March 2024

Yesterday I was working with Redrow to layout the positions of the trees and sculptures. I was grateful that the rain held off and I really enjoyed residents stopping to say hello and let me pat their dogs!

First, the team took measurements off the drawing and marked the centre of each foundation with a marker spray on the grass. They then used an enormous drill to go straight into the ground and lift out the soil. By hand and shovels they squared off the circle the drill made, and then inserted a plywood formwork in preparation for the concrete. Check out a little video I made of the whole process on the project Instagram account and Facebook page.

Next Monday 4th March we’ll be pouring the sculpture foundations, and on Friday 8th March we’ll be planting the five incredible 19-year-old Tibetan Cheery Trees. If you have a moment and would like to pop down to see what’s going on I’d love to see you!

The sculptures are being made as we speak and should arrive mid-May.

As usual I’ll pop some updates and photos up on the project Instagram account, Facebook page and if you haven’t already, why not sign up to the project newsletter through the contact page.

If you have any questions about the project, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
